How To Copy Data Between 32-bit & 64-bit Environments

BACKGROUND & OVERVIEW

The following documentation provides instructions for copying data between 32-bit and 64-bit databases using the exp and imp utilities.

CHECKLIST

BINARY MODE

Ensure that any transfers of export file between machines are performed in binary mode. Not doing so is the most common cause of the following errors:

IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

RECORDLENGTH

the RECORDLENGTH parameter defaults to different values depending upon versions and platforms of operating systems, therefore to avoid error, ensure both the {[exp}} and imp are using the same values by explicitly setting the RECORDLENGTH.

32-BIT TO 64-BIT

The exp and imp utilities can be used to connect to databases with different word-size.
