How To Configure The Help System

BACKGROUND

Oracle provides a useful command-line help system for the SQL*Plus interface. This document describes how to check if has been configured, and if not, how to configure it.

CHECK CONFIGURATION

  • Log on to the database as SYSTEM
  • Type help
  • If the following message is returned then the help system has been installed:
 HELP
 ----

 Accesses this command line help system. Enter HELP INDEX or ? INDEX
 for a list of topics. In iSQL*Plus, click the Help button to display
 iSQL*Plus online help.
 You can view SQL*Plus resources at http://otn.oracle.com/tech/sql_plus/
 and the Oracle Database Library at http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/

 HELP|? [topic]
  • If the following message is returned then the help system has not been installed, go to the next section:
SP2-0171: HELP system not available.

CONFIGURING SQL*PLUS HELP

  • Log on to the database as SYSTEM
  • Type:
    • @?/sqlplus/admin/help/hlpbld.sql ?/sqlplus/admin/help/helpus.sql
  • Repeat the CHECK CONFIGURATION step.
