CRS-1205: Auto Start Failed
Table of Contents

SYMPTOM

  • The database (RDBMS) layer will start manually and trouble-free, however, when attempted via a re-start of the whole cluster stack, either via crsctl crs stop/start or via a server reboot, the database (RDBMS) layer fails to re-start.
  • Investigation of the $CRS_HOME/log/<Node name>/alert.log reveals a CRS-1205 error.

CAUSE

  • This error is usually caused because a dependency is missing between the database (RDBMS) layer and the ASM layer. Re-establishing the dependency will prevent the RDBMS from trying to start (and failing) before the ASM environment is ready.

SOLUTION

  • On all RAC nodes, run the following:
srvctl modify instance -d <database name> -i <RDBMS instance name on Node x> -s <ASM instance name on Node x>
srvctl modify instance -d <database name> -i <RDBMS instance name on Node x> -s <ASM instance name on Node x>
...
srvctl modify instance -d <database name> -i <RDBMS instance name on Node x> -s <ASM instance name on Node x>
